So, you’ve landed an interview with a company that you’re dying to work for. Congratulations! But there’s just one problem: it’s a video chat interview. Not only are you nervous about the fact that it won’t be in person, but also there are some technical issues that can make this type of interview stressful and uncomfortable for everyone involved.  To ease your fears and set yourself up for success below are some tips to navigate these types of interviews so you can feel comfortable, confident, and prepared throughout the whole process. Here are my top tips for making the most out of your next video chat interview:

  • Be prepared to answer any questions they may ask – practice answering interview questions beforehand.  There are tons of resources for every type of interview question available online
  • Be ready to describe your skills, experience and accomplishments.  Practice storytelling your experiences to help your recruiter connect to and remember you
  • Explain why you are interested in the job
  • Describe your experience with the company

Be On Time

  • Be on time don’t leave the interviewer waiting.

Use a Video Chat App

  • Use a Video Chat App

Video chat apps are great for remote interviews. They allow you to see the candidate’s face and body language, which can make for a more personal experience. You can also use it to have them share their screen so you can see what they’re working on. The most popular video chat apps include Skype, Zoom and Google Hangouts.

Know Your Connection Speed

The first thing to do is find out what your connection speed is. You can do this by using a speed test, which will give you an idea of how fast or slow your internet connection is. If it’s not good enough for video chatting, then try another app or test at another time of day when there aren’t as many people online.

If you have a good connection and are ready for remote interviews, then we recommend using one of these two apps: Skype and Zoom. Both offer free versions that allow for video chat with multiple people at once (up to 10). You’ll need to register with each service before beginning any calls–and make sure everyone else has done so too!

Create a Quiet Space

It’s important to create a quiet space for your interview. You want to be able to focus on the questions, and not worry about what’s going on around you. To do this, turn off any music or other sounds that may be distracting you from the task at hand.

If possible, use a headset instead of speakers so that no one else can hear what is being said in the background during interviews (especially if they’re loud).

Get Set Up in Advance

Before you start the interview, make sure your laptop is fully charged and ready to go. You don’t want to be halfway through the interview when your battery dies or the internet connection cuts out.

Next,go to your quiet place where you can sit comfortably and focus on what’s being said. If possible, find a space where there won’t be any distractions–it’s hard enough trying to do an interview without having someone walk by every few minutes!

Finally: prepare yourself! Make sure that whatever tools or materials are needed for this particular remote interview are within reach (this may include pens/pencils).

We hope that this article has helped you to prepare for your next video interview. Remember, it’s important to be prepared and know what to expect before you start chatting with your future employer.
