“Why do I need a cover letter? It’s 2021 and I’ve heard no one reads them anymore.” is the question you may be asking yourself. It may also be your excuse to not write a cover letter because they are challenging, time consuming, and can also be confusing to figure out what to say that’s not just a regurgitation of your resume.

However, your cover letter can set you apart from the other candidates. It’s your chance to express your enthusiasm for the company and role, highlight your strengths and why you’ll be a perfect fit, address any gaps and can showcase your writing skills which are still vitally important in today’s digital world.
While you’ll anecdotally read many recruiters don’t read cover letters research doesn’t support that claim. In a blog post from Michael Tomaszewski, CPRW on ResumeLab he states: “Even if submitting a cover letter is optional, 77% of recruiters will give preference to candidates who did send a cover letter. 72% of recruiters still expect cover letters even if the job ad states they’re optional.”
Resume Review Services is here to help you write that cover letter and increase your chances of getting the interview.
