Can My Resume Be Longer Than 2 Pages?

The short answer? It Depends. Contemporary resumes can be two pages long provided the information included is important to the employer and relevant to the position. Your main concern should always be relevancy to the job you’re applying to, not length. Modern resumes are no longer a giant listing of everything you’ve ever done since high school. (That format is more reminiscent of a CV).  It’s the answer to the age old question quantity vs. quality. Resumes are all about the quality of your experiences. Justify using that second page by telling a compelling story of what you’re bringing to the table for a new employer. Don’t just list tasks but demonstrate your value through quantifying, writing accomplishments, using concrete examples and showing progression through your career.

And finally just because you have a second page doesn’t mean you need to fill up the entire page. Keep your information succinct. If you can’t stand the empty white space at the bottom of the page, and you haven’t already, you can include informaton on your involvement in professional organizations and volunteer work especially if you hold leadership positions. But don’t feel obligated to include non relevant information and add fluff. Some white space is OK.
